The Elegance of Confidence: A Journey as an Etiquette Advisor
September 25, 2024
When people find out I’m an etiquette advisor, I often see a shift in their behavior. Suddenly, they become acutely aware of how they’re holding their fork, the way they sip their drink, or whether they’re sitting up straight enough. It’s as if they believe I’m silently judging their every move, waiting to correct a misplaced elbow or an awkwardly held teacup. But here’s the thing: that’s not what I’m about at all.
For me, etiquette, especially when it comes to table manners, is not about strict rules or outdated customs. It’s about consideration—consideration for others and, just as importantly, for ourselves. At its core, etiquette is a practice of mindfulness, a way to move through the world with intention, respect, and yes, a touch of elegance.
Elegance as a Virtue
When I think of elegance, I don’t picture expensive brands or a perfectly poised pinky finger. Elegance, to me, is a virtue, a way of being that transcends material wealth and social status. It’s about how you carry yourself, how you treat others, and how you navigate the world with grace. It’s an inner quality that radiates outward, influencing not just your actions but also how you feel about yourself.
I started my consultancy as an elegance advisor because I wanted to share this perspective with others. I wanted to show people that elegance and etiquette are not about putting on airs or pretending to be someone you’re not. Instead, they are tools for building confidence, for finding a sense of calm and control in a chaotic world.
Finding Confidence Through Elegance
One of the most surprising things I’ve discovered on this journey is how deeply connected elegance is to confidence. When we practice good manners, we’re not just being polite; we’re reinforcing our own sense of self-worth. We’re telling ourselves that we deserve to move through the world with dignity and respect. We’re affirming our value, both to ourselves and to others.
This realization has been incredibly empowering for me, and it’s something I strive to pass on to my clients. When you learn to hold yourself with elegance—whether that’s through mastering table manners, improving your communication skills, or simply being more mindful in your daily life—you start to see yourself in a new light. You begin to appreciate how far you’ve come and recognize the strength and resilience that have carried you to this point.
Empowering Others Through Etiquette
Through my work, I’ve had the privilege of helping others connect with themselves on a deeper level. I’ve seen how a newfound understanding of elegance and etiquette can transform someone’s
outlook, giving them the confidence to pursue their goals and the poise to navigate life’s challenges with grace. It’s about more than just table manners—it’s about emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and the ability to lead a more intentional and mindful life.
Elegance and etiquette have empowered me to be the best version of myself, and I’m passionate about helping others achieve the same. It’s about being confident and proud of who you are, recognizing the journey you’re on, and embracing the greatness that lies ahead.
So, the next time you find yourself sitting across from me at the dinner table, don’t worry about which fork to use or how to hold your cup. Instead, focus on the conversation, the connection, and the confidence that comes from knowing you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be—on your own unique journey of elegance and self-discovery.
