Professional ghosting is when you do not respond to a request made to you, either because you are busy or you may be doing so intentionally.
It is not when you don’t see the email or go to spam, and you miss it.
Examples of this would be a proposal, a job opportunity, or a request for information that has been sent to you over an extended period of time, and the other is waiting for your response.
Why is it impolite?
It’s impolite because the person is either holding time in their calendar waiting for a response or turning down other professional opportunities because they’ve been waiting for the answer, or they are just waiting.
How can you handle this with more elegance and avoid professionally ghosting someone?
- Acknowledge receipt of the request
- Send your answer promptly.
- Either turn down the request/candidate or request more time.
- Send them an update on when they can expect to hear back from you.
I hope you have found this post helpful for understanding why professional ghosting is unprofessional and a few ways to level up your communication skills to keep your business relationships strong! You can also watch my video on Professional Ghosting <<<here>>>.
