Do you want to be a more elegant person?
Each week I provide thinking points for you to include on your self-development journey.
This week the elegant tone is all about being interested. An elegant individual knows that being interested in others is an essential part of developing and building rapport in relationships.
How can we show more interest in others?
1. Expectations
Often we go into conversations thinking of what we hope to get out of it. Approach conversations with an open mind and the expectation that it is a gift! You never know what will come out of it.
2. Focus on the details
The details keep the conversation going. Ask questions about the details that show that you want to learn more. This will show your interest, involvement, and investment.
3. Perceptions
You may have preconceived notions about the conversation in general, for example, if you dread small talk or you think a particular conversation is a waste of time. Shift your perception about all the conversations that you have. Think about them as opportunities.
You never know what will come from them, This will shift your mindset so you will be more interested in the conversations at hand. No matter how tedious.
Being interested can be built on and developed as a skill, all it takes is a decision and one step in the direction of setting the right intention and putting it into action. I hope that you find these tips helpful.
